Adventure

Adventure

Situated at the meeting point of the Saint Lawrence and Saint-Maurice rivers, Trois-Rivières is perfectly positioned for year-round outdoor adventure. The city has long embraced its river roots, offering everything from exhilarating jet-ski tours and river kayaking to peaceful paddleboarding along the more tranquil sections. If you're after a more rugged experience, the nearby Parc de la Mauricie—just a short drive north—unlocks a vast playground of hiking trails, cliffs, waterfalls, and pristine lakes nestled in boreal forest. In summer, cyclists ride through the city’s well-maintained trails and continue into rural landscapes on the Route Verte, while ATV riders and dirt bikers explore trails through wooded stretches just outside city limits. Come winter, Trois-Rivières transforms: snowmobiling becomes a local favorite, with trails crisscrossing through forest corridors and along frozen rivers. The Parc de l’Île Saint-Quentin is a hub for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and even features a river-facing beach that buzzes with activity in the warmer months. There’s a perfect mix of adrenaline and tranquility here—whether you’re carving through snow, gliding over water, or hiking above a frozen valley, Trois-Rivières offers small-city access to large-scale adventure.

Wildlife

As part of the Mauricie region, it benefits from a natural ecosystem where waterways and woodlands collide, attracting species from both aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Along the Saint-Maurice River, you might spot beavers at work, herons stalking the shoreline, and ducks gliding through the currents. Deer are a frequent sight along rural roads and on the edge of city parks like Boisé des Estacades, where quiet walkers often come across them during early morning strolls. Head a little farther into the Mauricie National Park, and your chances of encountering larger wildlife—like moose, black bears, or even lynx—increase significantly. The area also serves as a migratory stop for birds, including hawks, snow geese, and songbirds, making Trois-Rivières a seasonal paradise for birdwatchers. Foxes and raccoons are commonly seen even within city limits, having adapted well to green urban environments. Wetland areas near Lac Saint-Pierre, a UNESCO biosphere reserve just to the east, host turtles, frogs, and a wide range of insects and amphibians. Wildlife in Trois-Rivières feels personal and close—it's the kind of city where you might hear a woodpecker while sipping coffee on your porch.

Car Culture

Car Culture

Car culture in Trois-Rivières isn’t just a hobby—it’s a legacy. The city is home to one of Canada’s most iconic motorsport events: the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Each summer, the roar of engines fills the streets as professional drivers race through a temporary circuit built directly into the downtown core. It’s a blend of speed and spectacle, where racing legends and up-and-coming talent compete in front of thousands of fans. But the car passion doesn’t end with the Grand Prix. All year long, local enthusiasts gather in parking lots and community parks to show off everything from vintage Chevrolets and muscle cars to meticulously built imports and street-tuned hatchbacks. The nearby rural roads, with their winding paths and open stretches, offer ideal conditions for Sunday drives and spirited cruising. Small car clubs throughout the Mauricie region keep the culture thriving, organizing night meets, charity rides, and photo shoots that highlight both performance and craftsmanship. There's also a growing interest in electric vehicle builds and hybrid tuning, showing that Trois-Rivières blends tradition with innovation. Whether you’re a speed junkie, restoration purist, or someone who just loves a well-polished ride, Trois-Rivières speaks your language—with the hum of an engine and the pride of generations.
