Despite being a major metropolis, Vancouver is home to an incredible range of wildlife, often visible within the city limits.

Adventure

Adventure

Vancouver is where the Pacific Ocean meets towering mountain ranges, creating one of the most naturally adventurous urban landscapes in the world. The city itself feels like a giant outdoor playground. Grouse Mountain, just 15 minutes from downtown, is a favorite for locals and visitors alike—with hiking in the summer and skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in the winter. The Grouse Grind, known as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster,” offers a steep and sweaty climb rewarded by panoramic views over the city and ocean. For water lovers, Vancouver delivers just as hard—English Bay and Kits Beach are hotspots for kayaking and paddleboarding, while thrill-seekers head to Deep Cove or Howe Sound for sea kayaking among seals and dramatic fjord scenery. The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Lynn Canyon offer treetop trekking and cliffside hiking within urban proximity, and in the winter, the North Shore Mountains provide snow-laden adventure just a short drive from downtown. Mountain biking in Pacific Spirit Park or on Mount Fromme is legendary, offering world-class trails with forested drops and natural jumps. In Vancouver, adventure isn’t a getaway—it’s a way of life, woven into the city’s rhythm and only steps away from downtown espresso bars and sushi spots.

Wildlife

With the North Shore Mountains and the Pacific Ocean so close, wild encounters are not only possible—they’re common. It’s not unusual to see bald eagles soaring above Stanley Park, perched like statues in towering cedars. Raccoons and skunks wander the city’s green belts, while coyotes are frequently seen in suburban neighborhoods, particularly around Pacific Spirit Regional Park and Burnaby Mountain. In the waterways, harbor seals often poke their heads up to greet kayakers, and further out in the Strait of Georgia, orca and humpback whale sightings happen seasonally, thrilling passengers on boat tours that leave from nearby harbors. In the mountains, black bears emerge in spring and fall, and locals are well-versed in coexisting with these incredible creatures through education and wildlife management strategies. Even smaller species like owls, herons, frogs, and a host of colorful songbirds call the area home. With over 230 parks within city limits, Vancouver has become a globally unique blend of modern life and natural habitat, where hiking trails, wetlands, and forests serve as corridors for wildlife to thrive alongside human activity.

Car Culture

Car Culture

Vancouver’s car culture is as dynamic and diverse as the city itself. Whether it’s the rumble of a vintage Mustang along Marine Drive or the silent glide of a Tesla Model S through Yaletown, Vancouverites have a strong relationship with the road. The city is known for its high concentration of luxury vehicles and exotic cars, particularly in areas like West Vancouver and Richmond, where you’re as likely to see a Lamborghini or McLaren as you are a Range Rover or Mercedes G-Wagon. But there’s also a thriving grassroots scene. Japanese import lovers show off lowered Subarus, Supras, and Civics at weekly meets in Richmond and Coquitlam, where tuning and aesthetic mods are proudly on display. The Revscene car community has built a reputation for organizing some of the best car meets in BC, including the legendary Revscene Spring Meet, which draws hundreds of vehicles ranging from hot rods and euro builds to street racers and JDM legends. Vancouver’s proximity to the Sea-to-Sky Highway makes it a dream destination for weekend drives—hairpin turns, ocean views, and mountain passes all wrapped into one. Whether it’s show cars, drift events, or casual cruises, Vancouver’s car culture thrives with coastal energy, precision engineering, and passionate drivers.
